BEHNKE, Verner Alfred

1928 - 2016

                It’s with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Vern, on September 1st, 2016 in his 89th year at St. Francis Memorial Hospital Barry’s Bay, ON.  Pre-deceased by his parents and ten siblings.  Survived by his wife and dance partner of over 65 years, Ilene (nee McCaulley).  Many people knew Vern as ‘The Watkins Man’, which he sold door to door for many years.  He loved to laugh and make others laugh.  He was a kind man who will be missed by many.  He loved life and his family and was a cherished father to Sheila (Stan), John (Rebecca), and Sherri (Claude).  Beloved grandpa to Paul, Lisa (James), Anna, Claire, Kevin (Shelly), Michelle (Keith), Sarah (Rob), Adam (Holly), and great-grandpa to Mercedes (Denver), Tegan, Logan, Bella, Tyler (Amy), Kyle, Christen, Stephan and Tyler.  The family would like to thank the employees of Water Tower Lodge for the exceptional care that they provided and continue to provide to Ilene.  Also a thank you goes to the staff at St. Francis Memorial Hospital; many knew Vern not just as a patient.  A special thank you to Dr. Alex Atfield.  A Celebration of Life will take place on October 8th, 2016 at the Quadeville Community Center, 965 Addington Rd., Quadeville, ON at 12PM.
