Welcome to the memorial page for

Zigmund "Ziggy" Bloskie

January 31, 1928 ~ May 26, 2016 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Zigmund "Ziggy" Bronis Bloskie

January 31, 1928 - May 26, 2016

Zigmund passed away peacefully at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, Barry's Bay, at the age of 88 years. His physical health had declined over the last few years but he was blessed with his sharp intellect to the end.

Zigmund was the oldest, of the seven children, of John and Victoria (nee Norlock) Bloskie of Wilno, Ontario.

He was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Recoskie for 44 years and had four children. Sadly, while their marriage did not endure, they were able to establish a friendly relationship and went on to enjoy the family events.

Zigmund was very industrious and had several successful careers during his lifetime. His passion for the timber industry eventually led to his founding the Bloskie Lumber Co. in Round Lake Centre. He ran the successful sawmill and lumber company for many years. When that industry began to wane he adjusted to the changing times and became a lumber broker. He was also the clerk-treasurer for Hagarty & Richards Township for much of his working life.

Once he retired, he began to more passionately pursue his lifelong interest in his Polish heritage. He enjoyed volunteering at the many different functions of the Wilno Heritage Society & Museum.

Zigmund was an avid reader and appreciated classical European music. He greatly enjoyed discussing the politics of the day and storytelling to family and friends of days gone by.

He will be greatly missed by his children, Linda Bloskie, Deborah (John) Vice, David (Maureen) Bloskie, and Cynthia Bloskie; his grandchildren Matthew, Andrew (Liz) and Michelle Vice and Emily, Megan, Anna and William Bloskie; and his great-grandchild Evelyn Vice.

He is survived by his loving siblings Dominic Bloskie, Martin (Shirley) Bloskie and Margaret Rose (Ken) Lorbetskie and sisters-in-law Greta Bloskie and Mary Bloskie and his many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Victoria, baby brother Alphonse, brothers Felix and Lawrence, and sister Rita.

As per Zigmund's wishes burial at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Wilno, will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2016 with visitation services provided by Heubner Funeral Home, Barry's Bay.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Francis Valley Health Care Foundation or the Wilno Heritage Society & Museum.
