In the early hours on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at The Valley Manor in Barry’s Bay, Ontario, The Lord wrapped His loving arms around Annie Alice Sawyer and brought her to her eternal home. Annie, age 90 of Whitney, Ontario, was the daughter of the late John & Pearl Cherniwchan, and was predeceased by her sister Mary & an infant brother. Annie was the beloved wife of the late Neal Sawyer (2007). Loving mother of Carol, Faron (Camilla), Tom and Angela. Proud grandmother of Wanda (Michael), Wendy, Warren, Joy (Shane), Sherry (Richard), Lisa, Krista, Tanielle (Jeff), Lorne, Clint, Kristen and Ronald (Katie) and to this generation was known as Grannie Annie. Cherished great-grandmother to Westley, Whitney, Darian, Hailey, Tanner, Brandon (Miranda), Brianne (Josh), Jeremy (Kaitlyn), Kelsey, Tiffany (Jim), Elizabeth, Stephen, Kyra, Kailey, Ethan, Carson, Rowan and Kellan (lovingly known as Great Grandma One). Special great-great-grandmother of Jacoby, Karsyn, Ava, Layne, Jayme, Karlie and James. Will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Annie was a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother who always put the needs of others before her own. She was a passionate gardener, seamstress, baker and cook. She was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and treasured family time. Annie always had a smile on her face and brought joy to those around her with her witty humor… She never missed a beat! Staff from the Pembroke Regional Hospital, Watertown Lodge & The Valley Manor expressed comments like: “she is such a sweet little lady”, “when having a bad day I always visit Annie because I know she will make me feel better”, and “we love our little Annie”. For 16 years, she was the “Lunch Lady” at the Whitney Public School and is fondly remembered by the students that she had the pleasure of working with. She filled in as the “sales lady” for Sawyers’ Live Bait  and was often up early in the morning providing customer service to local anglers.

Visitation at Heubner’s Funeral Home, 43 Stafford Road, Barry’s Bay on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral service at St. Anthony’s Anglican Church, Whitney on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 11:00a.m. Interment at Whitney Union Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at St. Martin’s Parish Hall. Expressions of sympathy can be made through donation to the Alzheimer’s Society, and are sincerely appreciated by the family.
