Adolph John Burchat
“The Breadman”
MARCH 26, 1927 ~ AUGUST 21, 2019 (AGE 92)
It is with great sadness that the family of Adolph Burchat announces his passing on August 21, 2019. Adolph was the second-youngest son of Josephine and Peter Burchat, born on March 26, 1927 in Wilno. He is predeceased by his loving wife Stella (Prince), daughter Dianne (Pecarski), daughter-in-law Joanne (Kuiack) and siblings: Victor, Edna (Roy), Stella (Keith), Rose and Edward (Mary).
Adolph will be lovingly remembered by his children: Gary (Cheryl), Terry (Nancy), Pat (Connie), Joan (Michael), Chris (Natasha) and son-in-law Eldon. He will be missed by his 17 Grandchildren, 20 Great-Grandchildren (and one on the way). He was a highly respected member of the community and will be missed by all.
Dad spent his childhood years on the family farm in Wilno before meeting the love of his life, Stella. After getting married in 1951, Adolph worked in the logging and lumber industry for the next fifteen years, working for local businesses such as Pastway’s Lumber Mill, Murray Daly’s, Leonard Pecarski’s, and McRae’s Lumber Company. In 1965, Adolph became the owner and operator of a local bread delivery business, delivering fresh bread to local families and businesses throughout the area. Although bread baking companies changed many times over the years, Adolph continued to deliver fresh bread every day, and affectionately became known as “The Breadman”.
Dad sold his bread delivery business in 1989, which gave him time to focus on his other passions which included hobby farming, gardening, reading, and watching his beloved Blue Jays play baseball. He was very involved with the St. Mary’s parish throughout his life and served on the church council for many years. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family which included Sunday dinner and card games at Mom and Dad’s with most of the family.
The Burchat family wishes to express our gratitude to the entire staff of the St. Francis Memorial Hospital. We are fortunate to have such a caring group of individuals, combined with a modern healthcare facility, in our community that provided tremendous care and compassion to our father.
Friends may call at the Heubner Funeral Home in Barry’s Bay on Friday, August 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wilno on Saturday, August 24th at 11 AM. Donations in memory of Adolph can be made to the St Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation or the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund in Wilno.
