Bernard Prince Obituary

Bernard Prince passed peacefully in the Madawaska Valley Hospice at St. Francis Memorial Hospital Hospice in the company of family and friends. Bernard was a member of St Hedwig’s Parish and a loving father and grandfather and loyal friend to his family, friends and neighbours. Visitors were always welcome especially on the glider swing on his deck on warm sunny summer days.

Over his 94 years Bernard worked in many of the local saw mill and logging operations, at Marathon Pulp and Paper, local construction contractors, construction of the St Lawrence Seaway, Faraday Mine, Canada Barrel, and finally over 23 years at JM Schneiders in Kitchener. He never lost his love for Barry’s Bay and the Madawaska Valley and retired here in 1990.

Bernard (Barney) is survived by his children, Richard (Shelley), Joanne (Dave), Paul, Lori (Chris) and granddaughters Katherine, Christa, Cassie and Nikole. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine (the love of his life) and all of his brothers and sisters. He was the last surviving member of his family.

Barney is lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law’s Betty, Stasia and Theresa, brother-in-law’s Dan, Stan, Zigmund and Clarence (Delores). He will also be missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews as well as friends and neighbours in Barry’s Bay and Kitchener.

The entire family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the physicians, nurses, personal support workers and other staff at St. Francis and the Madawaska Valley Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion shown during his brief illness. The family would like to express a special thank you to Theresa and Kenny Golka, Pat and Lynn Peplinskie and adopted son Bob Prachar for their help and support provided during his many years in Barry’s Bay.

Visitation will be held at the Heubner Funeral Home, Barry’s Bay on Friday November 24 from 6:00-9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Hedwig’s Church on Saturday November 25 at 10:30 am followed by internment in the Parish Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bernard’s name to either St Francis Memorial Hospital or the Madawaska Valley Hospice.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
