Bronis "Ronnie" Ronald Shalla

The family of Bronis Ronald “Ronnie” Shalla sorrowfully announces his death on January 5, 2023 at the age of 87.

Beloved husband of Alice (Etmanskie) for 62 years. Deeply loved and respected by his children Donna (Paul Mahabir), Mary (Gary Gatschene), Michael (Su-Kim Roy), and Elaine (Dale Dumas). Proud Grandpa of Alia, Scott, Sarah, Mark and Adam (Kayla).

Pre-deceased by his infant daughter Carolann, parents Angus and Rose (Kulas), and all his siblings and their spouses: Bronas, Monica, Stasia, Florence (Albert), Dominic (Betty), Sylvie (Esther), Mary (Silas), Gerald, and Tony (Monica). He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

For 37 years Ronnie worked as a linesman for Ontario Hydro.  Away from work he could be found in the garden, fishing, hunting, fixing something or spending time outside with Alice and the kids.  Ronnie had a great sense of humour, loved to laugh and tell stories about growing up in Siberia, hunting and fishing.

The family thanks the staff of the Ottawa Civic NACU, the Renfrew County Paramedic Service and especially the staff and volunteers at the Madawaska Valley Hospice for their expertise, kindness and compassion.

Visitation will be at Heubner Funeral Home on Sunday, January 8 from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral Mass will be at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church on Monday, January 9 at 10:30.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ronnie can be made to the Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care Program through the St. Francis Health Care Foundation.
