It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David Joseph Afelskie on Friday, November 25 at M.V. Hospice with his loving wife by his side. His 3 1/2 years of suffering are now over. David will be deeply missed by his wife and friend for 15 years Florence, his children Andrew, Jeff (Melissa), Kayla (Kiran) and grandchildren Charleigh and Crosby. Also survived by siblings Chuck (Marion), Shaun (Beth), Tammy (Bob), Mary Lyn (Sylvester) and Cindy (Saul). Will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, brothers & sisters-in-law and many special friends. Predeceased by parents Benny and Teresa (Sullivan).
David managed Afelskie Shoes for his Dad from 1973 and then took ownership in 1998. Spending some 41 years in the store, he then sold it to his brother Shaun in February 2014. All this time, David was very much involved in the Barry's Bay Fire Department as volunteer fire fighter, Fire Chief and Fire Prevention Officer. He was also part of the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus as he loved to be involved in his community. After he retired from the store he took on 2 more jobs with Rainbow Rafts and Heubner Funeral Home and was still on the fire department. He loved everything he did and put everything he had into what he was doing. His favourite pastime was ice fishing when he had any spare time.
We love and miss you very much. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Francis Memorial Hospital, Valley Manor or M.V. Hospice (wonderful place). Special thanks to the Doctors and staff at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, Valley Manor and M.V. Hospice, Father Beanish and St. Andrew's Parish in Killaloe and finally to Warren and Joe at Heubner Funeral Home.
