Donald Bohart Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of the cherished Donald William Bohart, affectionately known as Donny. A devoted Husband, loving Father, (Bonus Dad), cherished Grandfather, and friend. Donny peacefully passed away at Madawaska Valley Hospice on February 25, 2024, at the age of 90. He was the beloved son of the late William (Bill) Bohart and Hazel Pearl (Duncan).

Don leaves behind his adoring wife, Margit Bohart (Maag), and is survived by his sons Geoffrey Bohart (Katherine) and Andrew (Kelly), along with his grandchildren Aidan, Justin, Brandon, and Olivia, as well as his beloved grand pups Gracie, Lily, Koda, Pippi, Paddy, and Gucci.

A repository of Round Lake's rich history and lore, Don had been intimately acquainted with its shores since infancy, following in the footsteps of his father Bill, who, born in old Killaloe in 1897, returned to Round Lake and erected a log cottage on Red Rock Road in 1931.

Don served on the KHR council for two terms and dedicated himself passionately for over two decades to spearhead the development of the Foy Park Corridor project. He was also recognized with the “Senior of the Year” award for Killaloe Township in 2009, Don's dedication knew no bounds.

Don's unwavering commitment to community and environment was evident in his tireless efforts, assisting countless individuals with land severances and advocating ardently for the preservation of Round Lake's natural beauty. Don's passion for Round Lake shoreline drove him to collaborate with a dedicated group, ensuring the preservation of this precious landscape for future generations to cherish.

From his tenure managing Camp Fortune to fostering a love for skiing among athletes and enthusiasts alike, Don's impact reverberated far and wide. Yet, amidst his professional achievements, his most treasured accomplishment was the enduring love he shared with Margit and their two sons. Together, they traversed the globe, with Switzerland, Margit's homeland, holding a special place in their hearts.

A doting grandfather to both human and canine grandchildren, Don reveled in sharing the splendors of Round Lake with others, whether through hiking its trails or gliding across its waters. Revered and trusted by all who crossed his path, Don's absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our lives.

Though his physical presence may be gone, Don's spirit lives on in the memories we hold dear. A celebration of his remarkable life will be held on March 13th from 3:00-7:00pm at the Wilno Tavern.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Madawaska Valley Hospice would be deeply appreciated.
