It is with great sadness that his family announces the death of Donald Recoskie at the age of 82 after a decline brought on by dementia and Covid. Beloved husband of Bernice, adored father of Don (Elizabeth), Ron (Nancy), Mary (Steve) and Jane (Joe) and cherished grandfather of Sarah, Harper and Sydney. Predeceased by his parents, Rose and Dominic and siblings Ted, Bernice and Ursula. Survived by his brother, Desmond.
After an enjoyable 38-year career with CN as a dispatcher, his true life work began following his retirement. He moved back to the family homestead in Wilno where he engaged in raising cattle, preparing income tax returns and volunteering for St. Mary’s Church, Knights of Columbus, the local Conservative party, St. Francis Hospital and the Valley Manor to name a few. He loved to golf, swim, bike, cross country ski and was grumpy if he didn’t get his daily hike through his beautiful Wilno property. Donald was a people person and always had time to share a joke or some gossip. He never turned down a party or any opportunity to dance, laugh or play cards. His mischievous and generous spirit will be missed by all.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his compassionate caregivers at St. Francis Hospital and the Valley Manor over the past year.
Arrangements entrusted to Heubner Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 2–6 pm on Wednesday, August 10 and 10-11 on Thursday, August 11. The family requests that masks be worn. A funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Church at 11:30 on August 11 with interment to follow at St. Mary’s cemetery. Memorial donations to St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation, St Mary & St Stanislaus Kostka Cemeteries, or the Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario are appreciated.
