Obituary

It is with profound sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Elizabeth Anastasia “Nancy” (Rouse) Peplinskie on Aug 18, 2023 with her children by her side. Beloved mother to Jennifer and Jason (April) and proud grandma to Jack and 3 furbabies. Friend and former spouse of Ernie (Magda) and loved by many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Elinor (Allibon), sisters Maureen Scott and Lynda Simpson, and brother Michael.

Born and raised in Quinte area Nancy attended grade 12 at St. Mary’s High School in Combermere where she met Ernie. She graduated from St. Michael’s College of Nursing and worked in the Toronto area. Wanting to raise their children in the country, Nancy and Ernie moved to Combermere in 1974 where they bought the Valley Market store. A few years after that, she began her career in counseling where she often visited homes all over Renfrew County. Working closely with the police and other services, Nancy was instrumental in the creation of mental health services for the county. Many people are forever grateful for Nancy’s help, support, and dedication. Nancy’s life changed abruptly in 1997 after suffering a severe stroke which left her partially paralyzed with major speech issues. Despite all doctors’ expectations, Nancy continued to thrive and adapt her life around her for the next 26 yrs. Her favorite past time was hours spent on her computer researching genealogy and working on family trees. Nancy never lost her determination, strong will, or sense of humor and always made her thoughts and feelings known even without words. Her raised eyebrow could speak volumes.

The family of Nancy would like to extend immense gratitude to the staff of the Valley Manor for their kindness, compassion, and loving care which made mom’s quality of life better, especially in her final days. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations in Nancy’s memory be given to the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation with instructions to go to the Valley Manor.

Following Nancy's wishes, there will be no visitation or service at this time. There will be a Celebration of Life for this amazing lady at a later date.
