Gail Chapeskie Obituary

Gail Marie Chapeskie
September 27, 1963 - February 28, 2022

After 13 months of courageously battling Glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, Gail Marie Chapeskie passed away. She heroically fought and defeated breast cancer in 2013, attesting to her strength and determination to live a full and active life. This second diagnosis seemed so incredibly unfair, yet she accepted the daunting news and actively fought the battle with treatments, which left her exhausted yet hopeful. Her positivity and fortitude radiated to others despite her pain and suffering.

Left to mourn Gail are her loving and loyal partner, Randy Dunlop, beloved children, Casey Palumbo (Adam) and Greg Palumbo (Jasmine), mother, Rose Marie Chapeskie, brother Mel Chapeskie, nephew Brad Chapeskie (daughter Olivia), and Mary Chapeskie. Gail’s father, Gerald, predeceased her 21 years ago. She leaves her Dunlop family, who embraced and welcomed her whole-heartedly into their world. Her god-father/uncle, Clifford Chapeskie, aunt Darlene Hurd, numerous cousins, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances mourn her passing.

Gail’s spirit was indestructible until the end. Her beautiful smile was ever-present, even during the most difficult times. She continued to enjoy her passions of reading, gardening, caring for her chickens, her wild birds and her beloved, faithful companions, Timbit and Diesel. A vivid image of Gail is that of her sitting on the end of the dock, in the bright sunshine, immersed in a book, while crazy antics of a loving family could be seen (and heard) in the background. An extra-spicy Caesar might have been observed nearby. Finding her true love, Randy, later in life, led her to many new experiences, especially travel, which she developed a strong passion and desire for many years. She loved boating on Paugh Lake, or fishing, followed by the inevitable “meeting” at the Boardroom. She cherished visits from her children, who were her whole world. She worked hard her entire life to provide a prosperous and loving home environment for both Casey and Greg.

Much gratitude is extended to a village of friends/family, self-titled “Team Gail”, and captained by Cheryl Reid (Dunlop). They showed her an outpouring of support and love from the initial diagnosis to her final breath. She humbly remarked how appreciative and surprised she was to witness such an incredible demonstration of love, care and support. Her work family at Pastway’s is also to be recognized for their loyalty and devotion. Special gratitude to the incredible health care workers at the Madawaska Valley Hospice.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Barry’s Bay on March 13, 2022 from 2-6 pm. If you choose, donations to the Madawaska Valley Hospice & Palliative Care would be greatly appreciated. It is here that she lived her final weeks, under the comfort and care of many, who provided her with dignified and loving support to the very end.

Rest peacefully, Gail. You are so loved and will always be remembered. Always.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
