In loving memory of Gerard Francis O’Malley
It is with heavy hearts, that the O’Malley family announces the passing of the most remarkable man who touched our lives and his community in countless ways. Gerard embraced his journey as a quadriplegic and showed his internal strength after being diagnosed with cancer.
Our beloved brother, Gerard Francis O’Malley of Barry’s Bay passed away peacefully at home with his family and caregivers by his side on February 24, 2024 at the age of 65.
Loving brother of Helen McIntyre (Dave), Renfrew, Teresa Bourne (Mervin), Ottawa, Bernard (Esther), Eganville, Hughie (Jeannette), Wilno, Dan (Patsy), Barry’s Bay, Joan Cybulski (Carl), Pembroke, Tim (Madeline), Ottawa, Faustina Thiele (Winfried), Almonte and sister-in-law, Mary O’Malley (Michael), Kitchener.
Predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Margaret (Lorbetskie), brothers, Michael, twins Gerald and Joseph and sister, Patricia. He will be sadly missed by 31 nieces and nephews; 54 great-nieces and nephews; and 25 great-great nieces and nephews, three of which were his god-children.
Gerard will also be sadly missed by caregivers, Eid Mookprom, Bernadette Bradley, Brenda Voldock, TJ Hoffman, Eleanor Bautista, numerous caregivers that touched Gerard’s life over 40 years, as well as his Metro family.
Gerard never wavered in strength, zest for life, and his faith, despite the many challenges he faced. He was meticulous to detail and believed in giving back to his family and community. Customer service at Metro was top priority. He loved to restore older homes and give them new life. Gerard was an inspiration to all who crossed his path.
Resting at Heubner Funeral Home, Barry’s Bay on Tuesday, February 27 from 7:00-9:00, Wednesday, February 28 from 1:00-4:30 and 6:30-8:30. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 29 at 10:30, St. Hedwig’s Church, Barry’s Bay. Spring interment will be held at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery, Brudenell. The funeral service will be live streamed on St. Hedwig’s Church website. The livestream will begin at 10:00 am with music before the service begins at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to one of the following which were closest to Gerard’s heart. Donations may be made at the funeral home during visitation or directly to the charity of your choice.
