Gladys Retza (nee Clarke) known fondly as “Aunt Glady” to all her many nieces and nephews passed away peacefully in her 97th year on October 04, 2018, at Valley Manor extended care facility in Barry’s Bay Ontario.
She was born on January 13, 1922, in Glacé Bay Nova Scotia, the fifth of 7 children of Joshiah Clarke (1888-1927) and Isabelle Hayward. (1892-1948)
Predeceased by her parents, siblings, and Frank Retza, (1924-1998) her loving husband of 51 years.
Although not blessed with her own children Glady will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. All will miss her kind spirit, her smile, her love of music, her sense of humour, and her wicked wit. Her ‘one-liners’ were absolutely devastating on occasion. Very giving and very considerate she was the best aunt ever.
We would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ and our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and management of Valley Manor who cared for Gladys with such devotion and care particularly during her final years with her long battle with dementia. Words are simply not enough to express our appreciation for the friendship, consideration , and kindness shown to her by all staff at Valley Manor. Always cheerful and always with a smile in a difficult work environment, they are the true heroes in these modern times. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We would also like to extend a sincere ‘Thank You’ to Dr Dawes for his many years of compassionate care and special attention to Gladys. Her final years, although difficult were comfortable.
In accordance with Gladys wishes, cremation has taken place and no visitation or service will be held. She will be interred in Saint Hedwig’s parish cemetery in Barry’s Bay beside her husband Frank. Friends and family may choose to honour her passing through a donation to the Valley Manor extended care facility in Barry’s Bay Ontario.
