Kevin M Taylor

Kevin passed away on August 6, 2021, at the age of 52, at the family cottage.

Kevin was born in Calgary and lived with his parents and sister in several cities throughout the country including Comox, Trenton and Greenwood. He lived many years in Ottawa, where he met his future wife Jackie. Kevin also spent two formative years abroad in Singapore, working as a respiratory therapist.

Kevin was a devoted husband and father. Together for 25 years, he and Jackie were true partners who could see the humour in the busy-ness of life with four kids. Kevin loved his children deeply. He enjoyed spending time with them, whether it was in everyday activities, or when he was sharing new and exciting adventures with them.

Kevin was also deeply committed to his chosen profession of respiratory therapy. He had been an RT for 25 years and was widely known and well respected in the RT and health care communities, both in Ontario and across the country. Most recently, he was the Registrar & CEO of the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario. He proudly represented his profession through his leadership on numerous external boards and committees, and was deeply involved in the regulatory community. 

Kevin was energetic and endlessly curious, and found joy in many things - international travel, listening to an eclectic range of music, collecting and playing guitars, spending time outdoors and staying active through swimming, running, cycling, and adventure racing. Kevin enjoyed nothing more than sharing a cup of coffee, a craft beer, or a glass of scotch, with the many friends and colleagues with whom he had forged strong and lasting relationships.

Kevin had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer, in April 2021. He was brave and determined in the face of a life limiting diagnosis, and in spite of a complicated course of treatment. He put every effort into coming to terms with the diagnosis, and doing everything he could to love and support his family.

Kevin was the deeply loved husband of Jacqueline Houston, and Papa to their children, Isaac, Théo, Felix and Zoé Taylor. Kevin was the cherished son of John and Irene Taylor (Peterborough) and adored by his sister, Shannon Taylor. Kevin was the much loved grandson of George (d. 2015) and Marguerita Isaac of Calgary, and of Mary Ann Taylor (d. 2014, Calgary). He will be deeply missed by Jackie’s family including her parents Louise Bélanger and John Houston (Ottawa), and by her brother Patrick Houston and his wife Cara Houston (Ottawa). The extended Taylor, Isaac, Bélanger and Houston families will always cherish their memories of Kevin.
