Loraine Haskins Obituary

Loraine Haskins, peacefully, on September 7, 2022, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.  Predeceased by her loving husband Jim.  Loraine will be dearly missed by her sons Jim, John (Gail), her grandchildren Jack (Lindsay), Courtney (Casey) and Hilary (Evan) and her great grandson Vincent.  Loraine will also be remembered by her Sister Jean Lucille (Bill) and her brother Stan (Marcia) along with her nephews and niece.

Born in Hamilton, Ontario , Loraine grew up in Toronto and was very active in school activities and sports.  It was her love of skiing that brought her together with Jim, and the two enjoyed hitting the slopes for much of their adult lives.  In the late 60’s Loraine and Jim left the city life behind and decided to follow their dreams by picking up the family and moving to the Ottawa Valley. Loraine and family immersed themselves in the Valley lifestyle for the next 52 years.   Loraine became office manager at MVDHS and then Constituency Office Manager for long-time MPP Sean Conway.  Loraine and Jim spent countless hours as volunteers on many community projects over the years.  Her community accomplishments are many , but the one that was extremely dear to her heart was her project Let’s Build a Forest, which saw thousands of new trees being planted in the Kamaniskeg Lake and Combermere areas after a ferocious tornado severely damaged the forests in the area.  For all of her volunteerism, Loraine was recently awarded the prestigious June Callwood Award for Volunteerism by the Ontario Government. Loraine was loving, funny and had a fierce inner strength which showed through in her decades long cancer battle.  She was extremely grateful to her many close friends who helped her immensely throughout her life.  This is especially true of the past year.  She was also very thankful for the care given by Dr. Jason Malinowski and the caring staff and volunteers at the St. Francis Memorial Hospice.

Cremation has already taken place.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice would be appreciated.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
