Monica Sophia (Shulist) Burchat

Monica Sophia Burchat (nee Shulist) passed away peacefully with her son Jim by her side at the age of 83 on February 15, 2021 at the Valley Manor in Barry’s Bay, ON. Monica was born on April 21, 1937 to Vincent and Ludwika (Dudack). She is predeceased by her husband, Felix, her siblings Martha Chippior, Frances Blank, Margaret Pecarski, Catherine Recoskie, and Alex, Victor, Charlie and Martin Shulist, her daughter-in-law Audrey Burchat and son-in-law Jimmy Prince.

Monica is survived by her brother Adam Shulist and her children Donnie Burchat, Carolyn Prince, Janice Ventura, and Jim (Andrea) Burchat.

She will be remembered fondly for her homemade donuts, knitted socks and devout faith by her grandchildren Lea (Jon) Walsh, Lynn (Tyler) Beach, Mark (Krista) Burchat, Laura Burchat, Stephanie (Desmond) Dean, Ashley (Conor) Prince, Jonathan (Stacey) Prince, Katrina (Justin) Ouimet, Kayla (Roch) Chénier, Kylie and Cassidy Burchat. Her legacy lives on in her great-grandchildren Nathan, Evan, Jackson, Evelyn, Abigail, Chloe, Arthur, Mason, Sophia, Bailee, Mason, Aiden, Easton, Lauren, and Juliane.

Monica was an active member and volunteer in her parish of St. Mary’s in Wilno. You could always find her working at the annual chicken supper and selling her knitwear and crafts at the Christmas craft fair. In the years leading up to her move to the Valley Manor, she enjoyed baking and quilting, spending time outside in her garden, and welcoming friends and family to her home. Her doors were always open, and she always had treats on hand for her guests. Her love and kindness will be greatly missed by her family and community.
