After a hard fought battle, just as stubborn as he was in life, Raymond “Teacup” Mask passed away in Pembroke Regional Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 60 on June 4, 2023. The Proprietor of Mask Island, and cornerstone of his family, he will be deeply missed by the sons he was so proud of, Scott Mask (Oliver Scherer) and Derek Mask (Miranda Voldock), and his Partner, Chantal Brown. Also left to mourn are his dearest friends, his siblings, Bonnie Mask, Patsy (David) Brown, Jim (Carola) Mask, Rachel (the late Charlie) McGuey, Paul Mask, and Michael Mask. Always with a word of direction, Uncle Raymond will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews around Ontario, his cousins, extended family, and many friends he met along the way, as well as Shelley Mask, the mother of his boys. He was predeceased by his parents Raymond Sr. and Marilyn Mask, and his sister Susan (Steve) Sech and brother Peter Mask.
Raymond served the Township for over 36 years, finally retiring in 2022. He was a mainstay at the local arena where he was the man with the know-how and ability to get the job done, and get it done right. Everyone who knew him knew how much pride he took in maintaining the finest ice surface in the Valley - and he’d never let you forget that. Whether at a community event or stopping at a local chip truck for lunch, he was always ready for a quick chat. He spent unending hours caring for his family’s legacy on the Island; doing hay, chasing the cows, seldom stopping for a rest. He loved his family deeply, as they loved him, and took great pride in his namesake. His absence will be felt profoundly.
Friends and family will be received at Heubner Funeral Home, Barry’s Bay, on Wednesday, June 7 from 5-9pm with Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 8 at 10:30am at St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Parish. Interment to follow.
Those who wish to make a memorial donation in Raymond’s name are asked to consider the Huntington Society of Canada or the Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care.
