Theresa Rose Marsey
1927 – 2020
Theresa Marsey, staff worker of Madonna House, died peacefully on December 26, 2020 in Our Lady of the Visitation – St. Mary’s, Madonna House, Combemere, ON.
Theresa was the youngest of eleven children born to Lawrence and Marie (Mousser) Marsey in Cleveland, OH. She attended John Carroll University in Cleveland and Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, and served as a practical nurse and as an elementary school teacher before coming to Madonna House.
Initially visiting a Cleveland friend who had become a member of Madonna House, Theresa returned for a number of visits before realizing that she was being called to this way of life herself. She became an applicant in January 1960 and made her First Promises the following August. Over the more than sixty years in which Theresa was a member of Madonna House, she served for many years at La Casa de Nuestra Senora in Winslow, AZ, and was also the founding Local Director of Madonna House in Muskegon, MI. During one period of time in which Theresa was assigned to Combermere, she served as Director of Training. In her closing years in Winslow, Theresa lived as a prayer/listening presence as an adjunct to the active apostolate.
Theresa was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings. Aside from her Madonna House family she is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
The Wake Service and Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated privately for members of the community on Tuesday, December 29, and Wednesday, December 30, with internment at the Madonna House cemetery.
Madonna House would like to thank Drs. Chen and Coulas for their care for Theresa, the Bayshore Nurses and Care Partners, who assisted her in her final weeks, and all who cared for her while she lived in Our Lady of the Visitation at St. Mary’s.
