Zbignew “Jan” Balut
May 13 1958 to Aug 2 2020
Jan left us far too soon, after valiantly battling a sudden illness. Very much a leader, and firmly guided by principle, Jan walked the talk, and greatly enhanced the lives of those around him. A student of history and geopolitics, Jan delved deep into world events, and relished good conversation. He had a deep appreciation for nature’s beauty, embarking on countless hiking & cycling adventures, mountain climbing and canoe trips within Canada and the United States. Jan was the ultimate outdoor adventurer. Jan nurtured myriad important long-time friendships over the years through his weekly hockey games, tennis matches and lifelong recreational baseball pursuits. Jan served as an officer with the Metro Toronto Police force in the mid-1980s with total commitment before embarking on his career with Ontario Power Generation.Jan’s absence will leave a void in the lives of his colleagues & friends within the OPG family, where he enjoyed a lengthy career mentoring those who were fortunate to be on his team.
Predeceased by his parents Janina and Tomir, & his paternal grandmother Olga, Jan is survived by his devoted sister Bozena (John), his beloved children Adam and Ann, his wife Janice, childhood friends and chosen brothers Erv and Lug, and the hockey brethren.
Jan will be dearly missed by his family, colleagues and many friends. Private interment has taken place.
