Gysbertus Hermanus Reym

1952 - 2016

Bert Reym was born in April, 1952. He was the youngest of 4 brothers growing up on a farm in Port Hope, Ontario. He looked up to them and over the years, his bond with them remained strong. When he was 11, he moved with his family to Holland where he eventually met his wife Helena and fell head over heels. During his time in Holland, Bert went to technical school where in his teens he discovered a knack and interest in shop classes, enjoying and learning how things worked.

In 1976, Bert married Helena in Ottawa. They would later move to Mississauga, where they raised their two children, Tim and Robin. In 1979, Bert became a welder. For 10 years, Bert worked together with an engineer on custom welding projects, before opening his own custom metal fabrication shop on 1992. Owning his business was challenging at times, but through adversity and perseverance, he overcame many obstacles, and was happy doing what he loved. In 2003, he closed his shop to be a full time caregiver for Helena.

In 2008 he achieved one of his goals by buying his first motorcycle, a black Bonneville Triumph. He would glow talking about his bike and loved sharing stories about the rides he would take. Each ride was a new adventure. He even rode the 4 hours from Toronto to Wilno when checking out their soon- to-be new home. Bert and Helena loved the serene nature of the town and friendly atmosphere.

Bert was always reading and learning something new. He shared his creative thoughts with his friends and family, fascinated by ideas that really were ahead of the times. He lived his life off the beaten path and knew what he wanted. He was a calm person who would listen with his heart and offered thoughtful advice. He focused on the positive, looking forward in life, never dwelling on the things that upset him. With just a small remark, he could put a smile on your face and brighten your day. Bert was an artist and an inventor. He had an appreciation for nature, animals and creativity. He was a problem solver and enjoyed coming up with solutions to almost anything.

Bert was a genuine soul. He was an incredible husband to Lenie, and loving father to Tim and Robin. Survived by his wife, children, and his brother Jim
